Mono/Poly, a.k.a. Charles Dickerson, has become a staple in the electronic music community over the last +10 years.
Known for his unique blend of interstellar, synth-driven, and textured experimental electronic music, he is inspired by everything from G-funk, Classical, R&B, Drum & Bass, Acid House and Jazz Fusion. Charles has previously released music independently, as well as with respected labels like Brainfeeder Records, Warp Records, Ninja Tune and has collaborated with many revered electronic producers in LA including FlyingLotus, Thundercat, Knxwledge, among others.
Originally from Bakersfield, CA, Charles moved to Los Angeles and came up in the Low End Theory scene, a weekly beloved underground experimental/hip hop club night. His debut record, 'Paramatma' (Tasteful Licks Records, 2010), introduced his unique perspective on electronic music seen through the lens of astral soundscapes, eastern philosophy and metaphysics. This first release would pave the way for collaborations with Thundercat, Flying Lotus and an EP release on the Brainfeeder label called ‘Manifestations’ in 2011. In 2014 he released the album ‘Golden Skies’ on the Brainfeeder label which showed his ability to explore music from a beautiful but unique space, inspired by a lucid dream,Golden Skies continued to showcase Mono/Poly’s rich, textured sonic interpretation of abstract experiences and life-changing moments. Mono/Poly’s “Crew” released on the Hit+Run label was featured on the television show Workaholics on Season 3 episode 14 “Fourth And Inches’ the same year.
Mono/Poly has continued to steadily release music both collaboratively and solo, garnering praise from Pitchfork,Fader, the BBC, Stereogum, Resident Advisor, among others. Mono/Poly’s production was featured on Thundercat’s “Heartbreaks + Setbacks” and “Oh Sheit its X”; He also produced “B Adams” on Grand Theft Auto's soundtrack in 2013. 2015 Mono/Poly produced Ne-Yo’s “Religious” Thundercat’s “Song For The Dead”, “Lone Wolf and Cub” and produced Tha Dogg Pound’s “Skip Skip” in 2015 then in 2016 Mono/Poly produced Kendrick Lamar's “Untitled 8” and in 2017 produced Thundercat’s “Friend Zone”. Mono/Poly’s ‘Monotomic’ album was released September 13,2019, this 13-track LP features Kimbra and production collaborations from Kaytranada and Thundercat. He also produced Lil Sims “Venom” in 2019 as well as released a 2 track EP (“Stackin Ones” & “Teach You All A Lesson”) with Ivy Lab’s Twenty Twenty London label. In 2020 Mono/Poly collaborated with Machinedrum & Tanerélle on a track titled 'Star' that was later remixed by A$ap Ferg and Shelley FKA DRAM. Later in 2020 Mono/Poly self released a 2 track EP titled "As Long As That Love Is Divine" and in 2021 received a grammy for his contributions on Thundercat's "It Is What It Is" album. The Mono/Poly Machinedrum & Tanerélle 'Star' collaboration was also featured on the NBA 2k22 soundtrack in 2021 and Lil Simz “Venom” was featured on the soundtrack for the movie “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”. At the end of 2021 he released a special EP called "Buck Foos" on bandcamp.
“Moonlight To Sunlight” is the latest album by Mono/Poly in which he explores a bit more of his lyrical side while still keeping true to the beats. In 2025 Mono/Poly received a platinum plaque for his production on Thundercat’s “Funny Thing” selling over 1 million units.
